Privacy Policy
TradingPrimer is a free educational site. We do not sell data, we do not run advertising networks, and we do not build profiles of readers. This page describes exactly what the site collects and why — written from the site's actual code, not from a template.
What you can read without giving us anything
Every lesson, tool, glossary entry and market brief on this site is readable with no account, no sign-up and no email address. Nothing here is gated.
What is stored in your own browser
These stay on your device. They never reach our servers, and clearing your browser data removes them permanently:
· your light/dark theme choice
· your reading progress through the curriculum, and the "continue reading" position in an article
· entries you type into the trading journal and the pre-trade checklist tools
· when the exchange notice was last shown, so it is not repeated at you
The trading journal is a local tool. Your trade notes are not uploaded to us and we cannot read them.
Analytics
We measure which pages get read, so we know what to write next. Three tools:
· Google Analytics 4 (property G-XJ0JSQ53HT) — uses cookies and is subject to Google's privacy policy. You can opt out with Google's browser add-on or any standard content blocker.
· Cloudflare Web Analytics — privacy-first: no cookies, no cross-site tracking, no fingerprinting.
· Our own measurement — described below. It runs on our servers, sends nothing to any third party, and stores no personal data.
Our own measurement, in full
We wrote our own measurement rather than buy one, so we can tell you exactly what it does.
What it records for a visit: the first page you landed on, each page you viewed with how long you stayed and how far you scrolled, whether an exchange button came into view, whether you clicked one, whether you used the signup form or one of the tools, your device type (phone / tablet / computer), the country your request came from (Cloudflare tells our server this — we never see your IP address), and the referring website if you arrived from one.
What it never records: your IP address, your name, your email, any identifier that follows you between websites, and anything at all about what you do on other sites.
How a visit is identified: a random string generated in your browser and held in sessionStorage. It is not a cookie, it is never sent to anyone else, and it disappears the moment you close the tab. There is no way for us to connect two separate visits to the same person. (The one exception is the tool usage counter below: it counts on how many days a browser that uses the Portfolio or the Trading Journal comes back — numbers only, never which pages or what you entered.)
How long it is kept: the per-visit record for 400 days, then it is deleted automatically. Daily totals — counts only, no visit-level detail — are kept indefinitely so we can compare one year against another.
How to switch it off: we honour the Do Not Track browser setting; if it is on, nothing is recorded. You can also switch it off permanently on this device by opening tradingprimer.com/?optout=1 once — the choice is stored in your own browser and applies to every page. To switch it back on, open tradingprimer.com/?optout=0.
Tool usage counter (Portfolio and Trading Journal only): if you have built a plan in the Portfolio or logged a trade in the Trading Journal, your browser creates one random code (tpDid in localStorage) and, at most a few times a day, sends it with a few numbers: how many coins are in your plan or how many trades are in your journal, how many buys, sells or closed trades you have recorded, whether you are signed in, and the same short “where you first came from” label. That lets us count how many people really use these tools and how often they come back — without asking anyone to sign in. It never sends your plan, your trades, your prices, your notes, your name or your email, and the code is not linked to your Google account. We keep the record for 400 days after your last use. Do Not Track and the opt-out link above switch it off; "Delete my data" on the Account page removes it; clearing this site's data in your browser resets it.
Where you first came from: the first time you open any page, your browser notes a short label for how you arrived (the campaign tag in the link, the name of the referring website such as “google”, or the app you opened it in) plus the page you landed on, in localStorage as tpFirst. It stays on your device and is only sent along with the account record or the tool usage counter described here. Clearing this site’s data removes it.
Moving to another browser: Google does not allow sign-in inside the built-in browsers of apps such as Zalo, Facebook, Messenger or Instagram. There we offer "Open in Chrome / Safari" and "Copy link". If you use it, a copy of the data this site keeps in your browser (your plan, journal and progress) is held on our server under a random one-time code for up to 30 minutes, handed to the browser that opens the link, and deleted on first use. Nothing else is attached to it.
Exchange button clicks: when you click through to an exchange we record the time, which exchange, which button on which page, your country, whether our region rules allowed the link, and the random visit id. This is how we know which pages are worth writing. Again: no IP address, no name.
If you request the free course
The form asks for an email address, and a first name if you feel like giving one. Nothing else.
Where it goes: straight to our own storage on Cloudflare — we are not renting a mailing list tool that owns your address. We also record which page you signed up from, the source, and the country of the request, so we know which writing brings people in.
Who sends the email: Resend, an email delivery service. They process your address to deliver the message.
We do measure emails. We record whether a message was opened and whether a link in it was clicked, through the tracking subdomain links.tradingprimer.com. This tells us which emails are useful and which to rewrite. It is per-message, and it is the only reason we do it.
Leaving is one click. Every email carries an unsubscribe link that works immediately, no reply and no login needed. You can also just reply and ask. If you have not opened or clicked anything for 60 days we send one message asking whether you still want them; no answer means we stop sending.
We do not sell, rent or share your address with anyone.
Exchange referral links
Links marked as referral links send you to an exchange with a referral code attached. The exchange knows you arrived from us; we do not receive your name, email or account details from them — only aggregate commission reporting. See the affiliate disclosure for how this affects our editorial choices (short version: it does not).
Other third parties
· Google Translate — the page-translation widget loads only if you click the 🌐 button. Until you do, no request is made to Google Translate.
· Google Sign-In — optional, anywhere on the site. If you use it we receive your Google account ID and email address from Google. We store your learning history against that ID, and we keep a small account record with it: your email address, the date you first signed in, the days you used the site while signed in, which sections you opened (lessons, chart, Radar, journal, practice, portfolio — not what you did in them), your country and device type, the page where you first signed in, and where you first came to the site from (a short label such as “google”, “zalo” or “direct”, taken from the link or campaign that brought you — never the full address). We use this to recognise your account, count how many people use the site regularly, and answer requests about your data. We do not add your email to any mailing list and never sell or share it — you only get emails from us if you subscribe separately. Declining limits nothing: every tool works the same without an account, and the “Delete my data” button on your account page removes the record.
· Cloudflare Pages hosts the site and processes request logs as part of serving it.
Children
This site is not directed at anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
Your rights
If you are in the EU, the UK, or a jurisdiction with comparable rules, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the only personal data we hold about you — your email address if you gave us one (together with the page you signed up from, the source, the country of that request, and which of our emails you opened or clicked), and, if you signed in with Google, your account record (email, first sign-in date, active days, sections used, country, device type) and any learning history stored against your Google account ID.
You can act on all of it yourself, without asking us:
· Email address and its history — the unsubscribe link in any of our emails removes you immediately. Write to us if you want the record erased outright rather than marked unsubscribed.
· Learning history — the "Delete my cloud data" button on My progress, instant.
· Visit measurement — open tradingprimer.com/?optout=1 once and this device stops being measured. Existing visit records carry no identifier, so there is nothing in them to trace back to you.
